Legume Root Response to Symbiotic Infection. Enzymes of the Peribacteroid Space

چکیده
Glycine max, Mannosidase, Peribacteroid Space. Rhizobium Three of the major soluble partitioned pools in the symbiotic cell, namely the host cell cytoplasm, the cytoplasm of the bacterial symbiont and the space between the two partners (the peribacteroid space) were assayed for selected enzymes. W hilst alanine dehydrogenase was found almost totally in the bacterial cell cytoplasm, other enzymes were more widely spread. Amongst these a-mannosidase, previously described as a vacuolar marker enzyme in eukaryotes, was found largely in the peribacteroid space. These results are discussed in relation to models of peribacteroid mem brane biogenesis.

Symbiotic Nitrogen Fixation.
Biosphere nitrogen is subjected to rapid turnover, and because it is eventually lost as nitrogen into the atmosphere, its maintenance requires continuous replenishment with reduced nitrogen from atmospheric nitrogen. Biological reduction of nitrogen to ammonia can be performed only by some prokaryotes and is a highly oxygen-sensitive process. The most efficient nitrogen fixers establish a symbi...

متن کاملProteomic Analysis of Legume–Microbe Interactions
Legumes are very special plants. They form symbioses not formed by most other plants, including Arabidopsis, and are important sources of protein for animals and humans. Legume roots are invaded and colonized by the nitrogen-fixing soil bacteria called rhizobia [29], and also with mycorrhizal fungi which contribute to plant phosphorus acquisition [16]. The development of the root nodule meriste...
متن کاملEffects of Boron on Rhizobium-Legume Cell-Surface Interactions and Nodule Development.
Boron (B) is an essential micronutrient for the development of nitrogen-fixing root nodules in pea (Pisum sativum). By using monoclonal antibodies that recognize specific glycoconjugate components implicated in legume root-nodule development, we investigated the effects of low B on the formation of infection threads and the colonization of pea nodules by Rhizobium leguminosarum bv viciae. In B-...
متن کاملTopology and phosphorylation of soybean nodulin-26, an intrinsic protein of the peribacteroid membrane
Soybean nodulin-26, a homologue of bovine eye lens major intrinsic protein (MIP-26), is an integral protein of the peribacteroid membrane in symbiotic root nodules. It comprises 271 amino acids with six potential transmembrane domains and lacks an amino-terminal signal sequence. A full-length nodulin-26 cDNA and its various deletion derivatives were transcribed in vitro after linking them to ba...
